Social media class for Shipyard and Islais Creek artists
Tuesday, July 26, 2022
OBJECTIVE: get more artists on sharing on FB, Instagram and other platforms, which should help our event a lot. I think we already saw the effect of it in the last two open studios.
Some general social media trends and tips. Algorithms. Influence of TikTok: Phone Videos and reels
Facebook events, sharing, business pages, privacy, boosting
I assume most people are on Facebook, but we’ll mention how to follow the shipyard site, sharing, inviting, the algorithms. I recommend you have a Business Page for Fine Art (even if you have a ton of followers on regular page.) That is because the privacy settings can be different and you can build out products and advertise on a business page. You can link that page to Instagram.
Basic Instagram stuff
I recommend everyone have an Instagram page, at least for advertising our event, in sharing and tagging the shipyard site. I am trying to figure out best practices and also how to set up the Meta stores.
LinkedIn
Many of us have LinkedIn accounts and this has become a very important marketing outlet

Mailchimp (how to work, getting the addresses on there, you need to start early—it takes time to set up the addresses on mailchimp), Square (now works with Instagram), HP page and store, and Artspan page help, linktree, Twitter, Hootsuite (not free), Youtube, TikTok, NextDoor, Google shopping, your images, image organization, messaging.
